Setting off for an adventure with a good friend, we left my house at 3:30 AM. My father drove us to the airport (way too fast because of time miscalculations). On the way, he managed to spill a whole hot, fresh coffee on my lap, but hey, at least we weren’t late! My dad has always told me, “If you not 5 minutes early, you are late.” I can only live by this so often considering how much time I spend procrastinating (I’m working on it — I promise). You know, I’m a work in progress. Aren’t we all??
After getting our bags checked in and going through security, we grabbed some PJ’s coffee (hallelujah!) and waited to board our plane!
We boarded the plane with excitement and waited anxiously, but suddenly, a flight attendant had come over the intercom and said, “Well ladies and gentlemen, I have good news and bad new... the good news is we get a new aircraft! The bad news is this one is broken.” Everyone kinda looked around at each other reading facial expressions as if someone knew what was happening. Then he comes back on and says, “Get your bags, get off the plane, and go to a different gate.”
A little panic & confusion was set off in that moment, but he reassuringly said, “No really grab your bags and go.”
At this point, we all hurry off the plane and onto the next gate. A crowd of people stand patiently waiting to board the plane for more than 15 minutes when that darn intercom spoke again... “Ladies & Gentlemen this aircraft is not the one you’ll be boarding. Please move to the next gate down the terminal.”
W O W is what I’m thinking at this point. And also a little L O L. Lani and I are in full set delirium caused by sleep deprivation at this point from getting a total 2 hours of sleep. All we could think was “thank u, next” after each false promising plane.
Finally boarding, we had sat through over an hour delay at this point. Gosh, that darn intercom comes again... “We will have a 25 minute delay due to weather in Atlanta, Georgia.” (We flew from New Orleans to Atlanta then from Atalanta to New York City) I slept the whole (less than 1 hour) flight to Atlanta. And I woke up just to PRAISE THE LORD because we finally made it to Atlanta!
We nearly missed our connecting flight from Atlanta to New York. We ran to the gate, & we were literally one of the last people to board the plane! So Lani and I were split up. I sat by two strangers, and she did too. That’s okay though because we made it to New York safe and in one piece.
